SKY express, a leading Greek airline, commenced its new direct flight service between Athens and Lyon on Monday, December 15. This strategic move is set to significantly enhance the airline’s presence in the French market and broaden its international network.
Enhanced Connectivity to France
The new Athens-Lyon route operates twice a week, every Monday and Friday, utilizing the airline’s state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo and Airbus A321neo aircraft. This addition reinforces SKY express’s year-round direct flight offerings from Athens to Paris and now Lyon.
During the summer season, SKY express has consistently provided direct flights from Heraklion to various French cities, including Lille, Nantes, Marseille, and Lyon. This expanded connectivity plays a crucial role in fostering tourism and business exchanges between Greece and France, offering passengers more high-quality travel options.
The launch of the Athens-Lyon route marks the completion of the integration of six new international destinations into SKY express’s network. These new additions include Hamburg, Berlin, Lyon, Lisbon, Madrid, and Tel Aviv, bringing the total number of international destinations to 27. This expansion underscores the company’s strategic commitment to dynamic and targeted international growth.
Extensive Domestic Network
In addition to its growing international presence, SKY express continues to operate the largest domestic network in Greece, serving 33 destinations. This extensive internal network ensures reliable connectivity across the entire country, allowing passengers to easily access various regions within Greece.
Mr. Jean Brajon, Director France for SKY express, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the inaugural flight. “We are particularly pleased about the direct flight between Athens and Lyon. This new connection signifies a crucial step in strengthening Franco-Hellenic relations, responding to the continuously increasing demand for travel between the two countries.
“From today and throughout the year, we look forward to welcoming more and more passengers from Lyon to Athens and, from there, to SKY express’s largest domestic network, confirming our strategic commitment to offering high-quality connectivity to our passengers,” he added.
Strategic Expansion and Future Outlook
The airline’s consistent investment in modern aircraft and the expansion of its route network highlight its ambition to become a major player in European air travel. The focus on direct international routes, coupled with a robust domestic network, positions SKY express to cater to both leisure and business travelers seeking seamless connections between Greece and key European cities.
The integration of new destinations and the strengthening of existing routes are part of a broader strategy to enhance the overall travel experience for passengers. By offering more choices and reliable service, SKY express aims to contribute significantly to the growth of the tourism sector in Greece and facilitate stronger ties with other European nations.
The airline’s commitment to quality and expansion is expected to attract a larger number of travelers, further boosting the economies of both Greece and the destination countries. The new Athens-Lyon service is a testament to SKY express’s dedication to meeting market demands and fostering greater accessibility for its passengers.
